This methodology governs the market statistics and company-directory enrichment on Top Dubai Designers. Its purpose is to make periods, units, calculations, licence status and uncertainty visible instead of blending them into unsupported claims.
Source hierarchy
- Official statistics and open data: preferred for measured population, buildings, property and tourism data.
- Official government releases: used when they are the primary public record for a current period and the metric definition is clear.
- Named industry benchmarks: used for market cost context only, with geography, date, unit and inclusions retained.
- Company-provided claims: may describe services or portfolios but are not treated as independent verification.
Reported and calculated figures
Reported means the number is restated from the cited source. Calculated means the site applied visible arithmetic to reported figures, such as summing Q1-Q3 or multiplying a published EUR/m² rate by an example area. Calculated figures do not gain more precision than their inputs.
We keep source units. AED figures are not converted into another currency; the office benchmark remains in EUR because a conversion would depend on the conversion date. Greater-than values remain “more than” and are not silently turned into exact totals.

These periods are displayed separately. We do not add permit applications, real-estate projects and completed buildings because they describe different units and stages.
Current company-directory audit
The legacy WordPress inventory contains 2,069 company-like cards across 2,019 normalized names and 62 potential duplicate-name groups. This is a content inventory, not a count of active licensed interior-design firms.

Coverage describes whether a field was present, not whether it is current or correct. Legacy phone, email, website, manager and establishment-year values remain unverified until corroborated.
Trade-licence matching protocol
- Acquire one complete, current official snapshot consisting of the licence master, trade-name table, licence-activity table and activity-code dictionary. Preserve every source URL, updated date, file size and SHA-256 hash.
- Parse and join the complete files locally once. Do not issue one registry request per directory card.
- Join the licence master to English and Arabic trade names by licence number and trade-name serial, then join licence activities by licence number. Keep the original legal name and every source row.
- Normalize English and Arabic trade names for candidate generation. Index licence number, Dubai Unified Licence number where supplied, issue, expiry and cancellation dates, status, category, commercial register, activity and issuing authority.
- An exact verified match requires the legal trade name plus a corroborating identifier or attribute where available. A normalized-name-only match is a candidate for review, not an automatic verification.
- If one directory name maps to multiple licences, retain every candidate and mark the record ambiguous until a licence number, activity, address or other corroborator resolves it.
- Keep cancelled, closed, expired and otherwise inactive records visible with the official status and retrieval date. Do not silently delete them, because that would make the directory look more current than the evidence supports.
- Identify genuinely new directory candidates only when the official activity data shows a relevant design, engineering, decoration or fit-out activity. A generic trade name alone is insufficient.
Dubai’s official licence-verification guidance points users to emirate-level channels, and Invest in Dubai supports searches by licence number, Dubai Unified Licence number and English or Arabic business name. Batch matching requires the licence master, trade-name table, licence-activity table and activity dictionary together: the master contains a trade-name serial, not the name text needed for matching.
At this review, the legacy file host did not deliver the complete CSV files and the replacement portal required access. The discoverable snapshots were dated 10-18 February 2026; on 3 August 2026 they would be historical evidence, not proof of current active status. Therefore no existing company card is labelled active or closed from these files yet.
Regulatory activity context
Dubai Municipality’s technical-staff requirements identify “Interior Design Engineering Services” under activity code 742,110 in the engineering-consultancy guidance and “Interior Decoration” under activity code 454,009 in the contracting guidance. These documents help interpret activities and technical requirements. They do not prove that any named company holds either activity.
Publication and privacy rules
- Publish business identity, licence/activity/status data and business contact details only when relevant and supported.
- Do not publish passport or Emirates ID numbers, signatures, personal addresses, personal phone numbers or other unnecessary personal data from licence documents.
- Record a retrieval date and source for every verified field; do not overwrite conflicting values without preserving provenance.
- Do not turn data completeness, age, licence status or market size into a company ranking.
